Dear ACT AAG Members and Friends,

We are pleased to share the following updates:

1. Upcoming AAG ACT event:

  • The AAG Committee is pleased to host an upcoming event titled: “Foregrounding Dignity & Kindness In Residential Aged Care”.
    • This event will feature two presentations. First, Luis Cordero will speak about his journey around the world to understand how different cultures are innovating to improve the care of older people. Australia is the last stop on a journey that has included Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Spain, France, Germany, and Nepal. Second, Dr Rodney Jilek will present on Community Home Australia, an NDIS provider offering a range of specialist support services for people living with younger onset dementia. This includes supported independent living, day programs and holiday support.
    • When and where? Thursday the 22nd of June at 5 pm at the University of Canberra Hospital.

2. Upcoming ACT event:

  • Belconnen Arts Centre are hosting "100 Canberra", – an intergenerational initiative presented by Embraced.
    • AAG ACT Members and Friends are invited to a Special Viewing (please see attached).
    • When and where? Sunday the 18th of June at 5 pm (please RSVP via [email protected]).

 

3. Participants needed:

  • University of Canberra Psychology Honours student Georgia Croker is seeking people over the age of 65 years to collaborate in the co-design of an educational strategy for healthcare students to develop an education program to promote positive attitudes towards older people to support creating more age-friendly healthcare services. The program will not only include what current literature highlights, but more importantly the concerns and priorities of older people regarding healthcare.
